Hello everyone
I've two questions about the B-1A
1- What was its maximum speed at low level? Initially it was supposed to be Mach 1.2 with the use of titanium but it was scaled down to mach 0.85. However, I've read somewhere that during tests at Edwards, it went beyond Mach 1 at less that 100 ft AGL. Can anyone confirm this?
2- Has someone any info about its FLIR system?
Many thanks |

| when it comes to low altitude max speed the big issue isn't always thrust, but dynamic pressure, or qmax. If it had the Thrust/Drag to go M1.25 in the first place then it still did with the limit lowered to M.85. Going to M1 during testing simply shows a safety margin in the design (typically 50%, but not always). |
