| I watched an old movie yeaterday called "A Few Good Men". One of the scenes shows a couple of F-14's in the background on supposedly Guantonamo Bay Air Field. Which begs the question: Were American fighters and interceptors ever based at Guantonamo on a regular basis????????? |

Not to my knowledge. Gitmo did and still does get transient aircraft. So if the Toms would have ever gone there for real (not saying they did), it would have prolly been just to visit. That and Fidel would've most likely gotten muy nervous if he ever saw Navy fighters so close to him
According to imdb.com, Point Mugu NAS was the filming site for the Gitmo scene you mentioned. So that would explain the Toms in the background |

First time I ever landed at Gitmo, I wondered why nothing looked familiar from the movie, as far as the airfield was concerned. Then, I looked it up on imdb, and figured out that, just as Link stated, the airfield was actually NAS Pt. Mugu. Aircraft aren't actually stationed there.
I wonder if they purposely shot the scene on the ramp near the Tomcats, so as to provide movie goers yet another chance to see Tom Cruise in a Navy uniform near the plane that helped make him a megastar? |
