Hello folks,

I am looking for a hi-res version of this photo I am linking below...

I have looked with Google Image search, Tineye etc websites but no luck. Seen it in a magazine about 3 years ago, still looking... Maybe one of you might have it in your F-16 Photo Archive... Thanks a lot in advance...

PS. Also any idea what base and what tail number this could be? The number is on the ladder but I can't really make it...

Disregard my last post. Rope for chocks, jet not pinned? Not at at a USAF base! Confused

Found another crappy version of the photo... Ladder does say 900735... That is an Alaska jet...

So ... is this really a photo or an artists impression? It does look like a blk40 but not a big mouth?

F-16 crew ladder is not a real good way of IDing a jet... F-16 crew ladders have been written-off 4-1 compared to the aircraft itself! Two Cents Laughing

Eielson did use rope chocks a number of years ago until they had a ground mishap when a jet jumped the chocks during an engine run and was damaged.

Most assuredly it's a Big Mouth Block 40. And yes...it's prolly a real photo. The image above appears smooshed horizontally giving the perception of a Small Mouth. Compare it against the first one and you'll see it.

And I do believe the first shot was taken somewhere in Alaska or maybe Canada judging from the foliage in the background. More than likely Eielson. They have some covered parking adjacent to a treeline on the SE corner of the base. (Check Google Maps or Earth).

Definitely looks like Eielson with the pure stands of spruce in the background and large snowbanks! Obviously they're not flying the block 40 birds out of there any more but I don't see why this wouldn't be an authentic photo from a few years ago?!? I guess I also don't understand the rope chock comment being an indicator of it not being at a US base. Here's a Raptor at Elmendorf recently with rope chocks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5TMIH9KuAA

They swapped their blk40s with Kunsan's blk30s right?

My recollection of the jumped rope chocks event at Eielson was that the rope chocks weren't authorized for the F-16; so, I can understand VarkVet's comment that they wouldn't [or rather shouldn't] be in use at a USAF base. I was surprised to see them in use with the Raptor, though. Maybe they are authorized for the F-22.

Correct. And as VarkVet noted about the ladder, there's no way to know if the jet pictured is even from Eielson. Could be a visitor from, say...Hill, or Aviano, or a ANG jet from the L48.

I thought the same thing. The Heaters are L/Ms (that may not mean anything) and the AMRAAMs look like they're A or B models. My WAG would be from the late 90's or early 2000's. Shrug

Checksixx, thanks for correcting my recollection. The older I get, the fuzzier past things become.
