I've heard a rumor that sometime next year or the year after. The navy might revive one or two tomcats for air show purposes. Does anyone have any information on this?

HIghly unlikely. Cost of operating Tomcats is horrendous, hence the reason they were beached in the first place. Trying to maintain a handful is even more expensive (per jet).

Thanks alot Roscoe. And you never know. Chances are much slimmer then an anorexic super model about the Tom at flying again. But who knows. It might happen someday.

When the Tomcats were starting to be taken to the Boneyard, Dale Snodgrass tried to get financial backing for a sort of Tomcat Heritage Flight similar to the Collings (Collins?) Foundation F-4 seen at airshows. Snort needed a flyable jet plus a half dozen or so other airframes for parts. I think the DoD eventually nixed the deal.

Normally FMS sales are a good thing.

In the case of the F-14, a sale the the Shah's Iran meant that the unfriendly people who control Iran have F-14s that need parts. The US government does not want any replacement parts to go to Iran. I heard that the F-14 in front of the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola has been "fixed" so Iranian agents cannot steal and reuse its parts (not sure who else has a mounted F-14, apparently this has been done to all of the display pieces.

Australia's F-111s, like the early Tomcat, use the P&W TF30 engine. Apparently the US government requested cooperation from Australia to ensure that engine parts did not get in the wrong hands.

F-14 revival? Doubtful. I suspect we'll see civilian F-16s long before any Tomcat flies again.

Civilian F-16s will be happening in 10-20 years. The European Vipers will be much easier to import, and will probably be basically intact.

Well that would be good, seeing retired F-14 for airshow.

Screw the F-14, I'd rather see more Phantoms flying around.
