I'm preparing to head out to Sheppard AFB in July to move an F-16B. It's going to the Russell Military Museum just north of Chicago to be a static display. We've got experience with moving aircraft, just not the F-16. I've seen quite a few pictures of birds with the wings off and how others have loaded the fuse on flat beds - very helpful, but I could use more info. If anyone can fill in some of the details, it would be greatly appreciated. And pictures would be appreciated even more. Thanks!
- Do the panels use Philips head or Torq Set fasteners?
- Are the wing bolts 12 point and what size are they?
- How do the horizontal stabs come off? |

I'll contact you in PM, cite some Technical Data references. You should be able to obtain the needed technical materials from the USAF museum if it is an approved move.

I noticed the Russell Military Museum driving on the I94. It was February 2008, I had just landed at the O'Hare airport, it was midnight of a snowy night. I was going to Racine (WI) for CNH, a customer of my company. I stayed there for a year.
The clearly visible Mi-24 Hind attracted my eye, even in that snowy night... I was like: "What? a Hind in the USA? Ok, I am tired... let me double check... Yes it is!" Then I noticed the M1 Abrams... and then all the other vehicles! I went back to visit it during summer time, but anytime I was going to Chicago I could not resist from turning my head.
Nice memories... |

marco9, we do have a Hind and an M1 (though the M1 is only the chassis). Check out what else we have: [Link pending approval]
Shortcut, we picked up two T-38's last year from Sheppard. And, if you were there, thanks for all the help and showing us the 16 painted up like Thunderbird #7. |
