for hopeful future pilots, which would you rather fly: the F-22 or the F-35?

F-22. The F-22 is better then the F-35 in air to air, and how often do you hear about pilots getting shot down from a air to ground mission, at least in the f-22.

I would like to Fly the F-22 but even if they allow new 2nd LT's to fly the raptor there would proberly be only one slot annually ,so the F-35 wouldn't be that bad of a plane.

I didn't know this until I got in, but the more important question to ask is what mission you want to be a part of. The aircraft is only a tool but the mission is the reason you are in the air. Doing the job you most relate to will ultimately mean more than the aircraft you happen to be flying.

Anyone who voted F-35 is insane, as the F-22 is undeniabley sexier, and has alot more to 'hotdog' with. Also, knowing you're untouchable helps. The F-35 is the deathblow to USAF culture and stigma.
mind explaining to me why this is the case with the F-35?

The short answer is that you are more likely to see action flying the F-35 than the F-22.
Then there's the whole "I want to join the Navy/Marines but they don't have the F-22" reason. |

I think most reasonable people want to fly heavies anyway.
They won't be replaced by drones and will always need a human-in-the-loop, at least to greet the passengers and respond to: "Who made that landing?"
Flying heavies you still get the smell of fresh salt air whilst laying on a beach with a margarita.

Actually I agree with you. I consider myself Air Guard.
In my time, Air Force guys tended to be kinda stuffy and serious. But even so the Navy guys were still hard pressed to keep up with the Guard guys.

I think the main knock against the F-22 is that the aren't going to get the technical upgrades that the F-35's are going to get because the cost per airplane is just to high.
