Does anyone know where I can obtain installation instructions for either the P&W or GE engine? It has been some time and I am trying to recall the installation / headache of installing the engine rear "coke bottle" mounts.

In your TO's, 70 series JGs are engine installation; not that it covers the tricks for getting the coke bottles to line up overly well.

Ref: 1F-16__-2-70JG-10-__ "ENGINE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION"

(fill in A, AM, C, CG, CJ, CM, and 1, 11, 21, 41 as needed for your block/motor)

Quote:
NOTE - Jackscrews may have to be adjusted to insure proper seating of thrust pins.

Roll the engine in until you can install the thrust pins; Place them in the engine. Continue forward and move the engine up/down/roll with the jack-screws until the pins can slip into the airframe mount halves and slip over the outboard mount studs.

Teamwork is the biggest factor here. You can't align one side at a time, but need to do them both together. Technician A,B work to align both pins at the same time. (Notice not Technician A then B, or separate steps for left/right) Adjusting the LH side of the engine makes the engine 'roll' and will affect the alignment of the RH side, and vise-versa. So if the LH side is aligned and ready, any adjustments to the RH side will mess up what you had, but then work together to get both aligned at the same time. ~ Remember Teamwork!

Isn't much of a headache. Shrug Especially if you're doing it with any regularity.

Keep 'em flyin' Thumb

Meaning the fighter (F) design between the 15th and 17th given an official number by the US Government.

We were TDY once and had to remove a engine. The Coke bottle, or thurst pin, was stuck in the mount. We eventualy got it out, and then the engine with some dry ice. What a fun day that was...

In my personal opinion the better you line your motor up before install, the better it goes. Get her straight and set the threads to the right height on the jackscrews
and you ran roll in without stopping on a pratt or GE. But like TEG said above practice makes perfect.

worst thing to me was the tighter squeeze required for the GE as opposed to the PW. Those lost increments of clearance took a little getting used to after years of changing PW's. But after a while it got alot easier to judge the clearances - just had to purge the brain of PW memory.
