Morning gents,

Before having to go bug the Seek Eagle bubbas at Langley, does anyone here know if a Viper mishap due to incorrect or illegal stores configuration has ever occurred?

Trying to settle a gentleman's bet on the validity of such an incident.

I can't recall any Class A mishap that was attributed to an incorrect or illegal stores configuration; however, I do recall there was a non-USAF incident in which flying with an unauthorized stores loading resulted in some damage. I don't have the details.

Seems to me that if the QA folks are building the DD Form 365-4 (Forms F) IAW the 1-2/5-2/SER Big No No ...there shouldn't be ANY illegal or incorrect loads. Just saying...

Not quite a mishap, but loading the incorrect type of missle launcher into the inventory would result in the burning up of the rail power supply. I never came across any known incidents or rumors of that situation happening.

Thats true on the rails being burned up, but we fixed that back in the 90's.

I guess I'm just wondering why you'd contact anyone at Langley (ACC/HQ) when the program office is at Eglin. Also, if its that easy for you to get the information (bugging someone), and you apparently have an NAC, why ask here instead of just contacting the office?

I've never heared about any mishaps either but once seen a film from testing the Viper with uneven stores at high altitude and high g and AOA. The plane became uncontrollable and FBW really struggled to get it flying the right end forward again. But this was made on purpose. I'm not sure about the stores but there were no external tanks I think.

Thnx for the info, gents. I wanted to see if these back channel streams could shed further light on the question; maybe hoping more interesting details reveal themselves in these forums.

As for the random Seek Eagle comment, while Eglin is the AFSEO office location, there are some brilliant Seek Eagle reps at Langley under A8XT who are easier to VFR for non-standard queries. Just thought I'd try this first for the hell of it.
