Developing and maintaining an aircraft equal or better then F-22 Raptor is expensive and possibly unnecessary, here are some reasons:
-The only operator of the F-22 Raptor is the US Air-force, and lets face it, even with a better fighter then the F-22 Raptor, shear structure and resources of the USA will smash any opposition.
-Even with loss air supremacy, the US is more likely to win the war, and lets face it even if you are a Pro-Soviet Russian it's better if the USA wins the war, unless it is a war against Russia, witch is surely going to end in a Nuclear Super-War, and the for war after that you better have some stones and sticks ready.
The F-35 Lightning II on the other hand, its a different case, here are some reasons:
-A large number of nations can afford to buy it and probably will.
-Unlike the US, most of those nations can't afford a large air-force, and have little or no, tanker and AWACS support.
-Air supremacy can be the most decisive factor in the war.
So if you have 65 billion USD, take 20 to develop an F-35 Lightning II counterpart, 10 to develop anti-stealth technology, and 35 to other projects.
I don't like America, but unless USA goes mad, and starts a world domination plan, I think it's power projection its necessary to world stability. |
