Per news release courtesy of 8th FW Public Affairs, congrats to 8th FW's success in accomplishing its training/readiness requirements for FY10 (completed on Sept 30)... Reportedly, around 9,800 flight hrs were flown in the year.

I'm curious if there is a public release on 8th FW's FY11's authorized flying hours, commencing Oct. 1 2010?

Wow they flew the FHP to completion? Amazing!! so did every other CAF squadron....wth kinda news is this. Nothin special.

imho, there is probably more to this story - in a good way - than merely completing FHP, but I'll just leave it at that and send my respects.

sorry i wasn't knocking your post. You just would not beleive the struggle that all squadrons go through to close out the FHP. To single one wing out is very......limited. I'm sure if you asked osan how thier FHP close out went, they would promptly tell you to go choke yourself.

I remember one year at MacDill we flew a 1 ship a .2 just to zero out. Clean A model took off with 2k in gas.

At Hahn just after we got our new A and B's, we would run out of hours every year in September. At the end of every fiscal year it was always slow because we only flew a few sorties each day. However on October 1st, it would be turning and burning. It was normal for the same jet to come across the hot pit several times in the same day in October.

All the NATO counties seem to do the same thing.

The 81TFW (RAF Bentwaters) would invariably be behind, and in the pre-'77 era, the flight hour program was aligned with the caledar year. So, New Years Eve, we'd launch the F-4 fleet with three bags of gas to do a Lech and back - see who could fly the farthest north past Scotland and still make it back to Bent-bridge. Wahoo - real tactical...all single ships with nothing to do. Astonishing we didn't kill anyone or lose a jet.

On the flip side, Spang 1977-ish. The 52 TFW only needs a .3 to zero out their flying hours. They launch a three bag Rhino to do a trip around the pattern, land heavyweight, collapse the nose gear, and class 26 the jet.

One of many, bad, sad, or stupid Class A's at Spang during that particular phase of the VN peace dividend ('76-'79). But at least their flying hour program was complete.

8th FW, Kunsan, zeroes out FY10 flying hours
