| Not sure i'd read to much into it. Indian procurment seems to be a funny old game of buying bits and peices from just about everyone. Interesting though and cheers for the link. |

| F414 makes a bit more thrust. That being said, it the EJ2xx series are basically interchangeable so if someone demanded them, it would be too hard to build a variant with eurojets. |

This made me chuckle... what's the JSF program then?
Yeah, it helps Gripen, but it's success is more dependent on India not thinking the political boon of buying the SH is worth it- or buying Russian, for that matter. |

| Personally I think the chances of the Gripen NG are going to be rather slim if the IAF or the politicians want to continue the HAL Tejas program. The F-16IN at least has a better shot since it has grown out of that "light-fighter" range with everything Lockheed has put on it. |

| F-16IN gives them unprecedented access to several forms of high tech jet engines at once. They'll have had basically the best of the west and one offs of the best of the east, which are inferior to the western power plants. India dearly wants to progress their jet engine understanding. They'd be fools to bring in old technology to study. Bringing in F414 for the Tejas is just an extension of their quest for technological advancement. |

The IAF isn't the USAF. 126 is a pretty big buy for them. |

| The cost savings in operating both the LCA and MCA with the same F414 now chosen for the LCA would be considerable and have to be factored into the mix. One would have to assume the selection helps the chances for Gripen and F/A-18E/F but India does not exactly have a long history of logical military procurement. |
