Hi,
Does anyone have any insight about GCH, LLC the contractor at Stuttgart, Ramstein, and Spangdahalem? Are they a good company to work for? Pay benefits, etc.
Any response would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard through the grapevine being here under contract in Italy (Our jets go TDY into Spain often), that the transit contractors do not get paid much.
In normal tradition, one needs to take into account this would be a civilian company, limited benefits in comparison to Gov't work, can sh*t can you for stupid reasons etc. whether or not these are good companies to work for?? would recommend to call directly to one of these European serviced locations and talk to the hires directly. |

| I know one guy that was working spang TA... pretty much the same as above. Low pay and NO benefits. They are pretty much after the retirees that have the rights to work in that country and are local. I enquired about a job at spang back in 2004 .. pay was a joke. |

Believe you hit the nail on the head there...If a retiree one already has many benefits as with what little this company may offer, then consider the retirement check and moonlighting on the side, know I would take a serious look at it. In fact have moved nearly everything to Panama, few months ago a major company signed a deal to move into the old Howard location to complete C& D checks on the heavy's...how many locals can slide into something like that...heaven on earth and the beaches to boot hehe.
Have a super weekend! |

| Any military retirees considering contract or civil service employment at US bases located in foreign countries should first research the respective country's Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) to determine if they will be eligible for on-base benefits such as medical, BX/PX and commissary. I know two military retirees who accepted contract employment in Germany only to learn upon arrival that Germany's SOFA as it applies to military retirees prohibited them from using the afore-mentioned on-base facilities. As such, they had to purchase everything (groceries, clothing, gas, vehicle insurance, medical support, etc.) on the local German economy which was extremely expensive due to the poor US dollar/Euro exchange rate. Supposedly European countries such as Belgium & Germany are very strict while Pacific countries like Japan & Korea are far more lenient towards military retirees. |

Retirees at Spang must get a SOFA card that will allow them to shop in the Commissary, but they must periodically go to the German tax office on base and pay 13% (if I remember correctly) of their receipts. Sucks, but still, if you have to have Ball Park franks and Kraft mac and cheese, might be well worth it.
Best Regards, |
