| Where HUD retrofitted to F-16A/B, or were they present right from the start? |

| They had HUDs from the start, but the A/B HUDs were tiny. C/D were much better, and thre Block 40 Wide Angle Raster (WAR) for LANTIRN was HUGE. |

And the A/B HUDs having that clunky AVTR camera right in your line-of-sight didn't make viewing any easier either. On the C/D WAC HUDs the camera got moved forward of the of the glass.
I'm told OCU Block 15s got the WAC HUDs but all the B15 sims I ever worked on had the original narrow FOV models. |

What HUD the new F16 Bl 50/52 have. Is it the same HUD that was used on Bl 30, or is the WAR HUD used on Bl 40 ?
Regards,

| The block 10 and 15OCU had the old HUD with the camera in front, A new hud was fitted at MLU1 as far as I can remember. |

Depends on the user. USAF Block 5X jets use the WACs. Singapore and Korean Block 52s use WARs (to support their LANTIRN systems). But ya don't have to have LANTIRN to use WARs. It's an option the buyer chooses at the time of purchase. |

Standard HUD fitting on all later production F-16s is the WAC. Only the block 40/42 range - and others on customers request like mentioned above - are fitted with the WAR example (mostly for LANTIRN use). Block 15OCU versions were also equiped with that 'new' WAR HUD although I seem to remember some being equiped with the old HUD for consistancy reasons amongst a mixed block 10/15/15OCU fleet. On older blocks it was replaced with the MLU upgrade.
And yes, they were inserted from the start. Just look at the early footage of the YF-16.

| The reason for asking is the location of primary flight indicators (airspeed, altitude, vvi, aoa) in center of the instrument panel. |

I got one question.. When viewed from design eye, is the shape of the WAC HUD supposed to be an exact square? or more like a trapezoid?
Thx~ |
