Guys
Being an avid mnodeler and having at least one of every airplane I flew it got pretty crowded around the "I Love Me" room and the wife said enough. I really don't know why --- just because every shelf, bookcase, tabletop and desk is full doesn't mean I have to stop does it???
So, as the attached will show I started hanging them on the wall. Here are some of the finished products. The additional neat thing aboutthis approach is you can build two out of one model. At present there are 4 USAF F-4 versions out there and 2 of the Marine F-4 one of which hangs in the Marine Corp Commandant's office. I offred the idea to a couple of the major model builders but they weren't interested.

I like the idea, if for nothing else than being able to hang on the wall rather than needing counter top or display case space.
And if you got clever with the cut you could bevel it to get a cool looking banking turn look... |

Your right!!!!
However most of the models of today are split right down the longitudinal axis of the bird so in order to do what you are suggesting you'd have to complete the right and left halfs thus precluding you getting two plaques out of one model. What I have done though on a F-105 Wild Weasel display was to give it a background display of SAM's, made out of spare missile parts in diffient scales and triple "A" bursts to show what he was going through over Hanoi at the time. Turned out pretty nice.
The hardest in doing something like this is scribing the wood perfectly so the model fits in a small channel thus eliminating any gaps between the wood and the model. At first I tried it with a Dremel tool but that was extremely difficult to keep the tool from wondering. Instead I now use a 1/4 inch chisel with the bevel facing into the model and the flat edge between the model and the wood. If you find a better way let me know.
