Hello all! I'm alive and well. I need to thank a guy upstairs for that one. Things got pretty messed up here in Northwest FL. No damage to my home, knock on wood. Hey Gums, you okay buddy? I saw Ft. Walton got messed up even worse than Panama City did, but nothing nearly as bad as Pensacola, or Mobile, AL. Anyway, if there's anybody else from Northwest FL, or South AL, MS, and LA out there, report in! Hope you guys fared as well as I did.

Yes, NORDO is No Radio. That worries me too. A lot of the area around Eglin AFB got the $hit kicked out of it. It's a little bit better over my way (near Tyndall AFB.) A buddy of mine that works with the power company said it could be up to months before some of Pensacola gets power back. It's THAT messed up around here. Anyway, I hope Gums and anybody else around our area is doing ok.

I read on ARC that Pensacola was hit hard. The Blue Angels hangar collapsed, and every team member reported damage to their homes. The Blues have cancelled performances (Oceana this weekend) so the team members can get back home and tend to personal matters. The USN museum fared well, no damage reported.

Yes, I've also heard reports that NAS Pensacola was hit very hard, and is closed until further notice. NAS Whiting Field in Milton was also hit hard, and I believe is also closed for the time being. We may be seeing a repeat of what happened to Homestead. I hope that is not the case, as the base, and The Blue Angels are together such an important part of Pensacola. It'll be awhile before all this crap gets sorted out.

whooop whoooop whoooop........pshhhhhhh......pshhhhh......

(sounds of static, bad survival radio, etc)

Whew! Bad storm, bad!

Was over in MS helping my 85-year old parents and escaped and evaded back Monday morning thru the carnage.

Water got veeeeery high in Eglin area, and wind was about 120 mph or so. Not too shabby, as we were 80 miles from ground zero. Many many trees down and even more large branches. Have a 40 foot oak tree leaning over house and trying to clear the sucker without it falling on me. Help is on the way my neighbor says.

Funny to see all the sailboats high and dry on the shore of the bayou nearby. Not so funny to see waterfront homes, dining places and motels destroyed or heavily damaged.

Pensacola NAS hit very hard, but the Naval Air Museum came out in good form. Other buildings not so good.

Look at some of the pics of Gulf Shores, Perdido Beach and our local barrier island. Sucker washed out many highways as well as a huge section of the bridge crossing Pensacola Bay. It's the I-10 bridge, and for a few months east-west traffic is gonna be a goat rope.

later, as I am still raking up debris and waiting for help with this tree.

out,

Thanks ELP. I heard that Eglin's tower got blown over. Of course, if it is anything remotely important, they won't have it on the news. No no, they'll show something important, like the cliche interview with the fat hick lady wearing a mumu, and some haircurlers; talking about the trailer park being destroyed for the 53rd time...But NOOOOO...nothing important like a control tower collapsing. Confused

Gums, where in the Eglin area is your home? During my last assignment I was in the Bluewater Bay Parkwood development. Glad you and you house survived.

I doubt "Pepsicola" will suffer the same fate as Homestead. Knowing the Panhandle politics, it will survive

Given the importance of P-cola's mission, and the fact that we have a ver conservative, pro-military political backing here in NW FL, I doubt they will close the NAS either. It will take a lot to bring the base back to the way it was, which is not a bad thing either, since many buildings on that base are ancient to begin with. This will be a great chance for them to modernize, albeit under very tragic circumstances.
