With the 34th FS slated for deactivation, will the jets be assigned to the WI CO ANG as originally planned? It was mentioned in a previous post that this was not going to happen. Where will the aircraft go? Thanks.

As reported on the National Guard Bureau website:

South Dakota to get new jets from Hill AFB

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., (3/10/10) - The South Dakota Air National Guard will receive 22 Block 40 F-16 Fighting Falcons from Hill Air Force Base in Salt Lake City, Utah, later this year, Guard officials announced recently.

Cool, those SD tail markings will look great on a Block 40 Applause Crazy Pilot

Anybody from Hill have tail numbers or even know if they decided to send the 34th jets or the jets with the most flying hours (which means not 34th jets)? If they go with high hours I'd be interested in knowing if any of my old 421 jets are on the chopping block.

my guess is theyll swap out tails to get the ones with the most hours to the guard.

It'd make the most sense, which means they won't do it...

First I've seen one the jets leaving Hill, 88-0428 of the 421st, formerly the OG Flagship and 88-0463 from the 4th. So they're definitely pulling from the entire Wing rather than just the deactivating 34th. Though the story says further down they're all coming from the goats as does this story: http://www.standard.net/topics/hafb/201 ... uring-plan

In one of the articles, 2 jets are slated for the 31FW at Aviano, and according to http://www.31atsg.it/, 90-0725 is at Aviano at present (May 3rd 2010). Guess she'll be staying Wink
(90-0725 used to be with the 4FS)

Not correct when you look at the transfers done from 52FW to 148FW - here one of the first tail # to transfer was 96-0081. She may have many hours on her, but she is about 5-6 years newer than the rest, so I doubt if she would have managed to catch up with the 91-series Vipers transfered at the same time.

Partial listing of jets departing Hill: The already departed 88-0428 of the 421st and 88-0436 of the 4th, 89-2174 of the 4th, 88-0438 of the 34th, 88-0480 of the 421st, and 89-2064 of the 421st. Should have some more tail numbers soon. So far only one 34th bird in the lot, two from the 4th, and unsurprisingly the majority seem to be coming from the 421st.

90-0725 is observed at Aviano - don't think she'll return from there
