Sounds like a good fix to me, I initially thought a short somewhere but that is where Pointys come in!
What does a fried DEESC look or act like other than the bit ball?
DEESC is a reliable creature (especially with the two blinks prior to start) [normally won’t let you start] and is pretty fail safe.
You know you’re having a bad day when you switch on battery power and the JFS starts!
Too bad you don’t have an ESS controller to slave in prior to the next start just in case #4 gets fried
Good work dudes!
I still love block 30’s |

| Im new round here...so hello everyone. But, when I was reading this...I was thinking short as well. Usually if your damn sure its wiring of some sort, but still shooting good...massaging the harness is a great way to get the resistance to jump around and induce your fault. Its a great way to "simulate" g loads for problems that happen only in flight but cannot be duplicated on the ground too. |

It's pretty bad when you crack a joke about aviation maintenance and nobody is old enough to know what you're talking about... (it's a glider thing...)

Old here.
The T-33 had a yaw string.
The F-4 initially had one also. They were R1'ed and used to hang a pacifier around the WSO's neck.

Being the most benign and simple thing on an aircraft, it was what we would blame with any situation we couldn't resolve by standard troubleshooting.
It still swear it could disrupt airflow into the inlets and cause stall inducing airflow distortion...
Guess Lockheed doesn't use them on Vipers, must have been General Dynamics fault during the LWF design stage.

I have seen depot engineers use a yaw string while troubleshooting an F-15 with chronic Bitburg Roll issues.
The fix was replacing that tiny cap on the front of the radome!

| Well it looks like it's good, Ran it 3 times yesterday, and flew 2 times today no problems, we are calling the fix a combo of changing the left wow (that took care of the air start indication we were downloading) and repairing some wires in the harness between the start panel and the dessc. it's wierd that the dessc never picked up the wiring problem, we never got blinking run lights through this whole process. i wont feel good about the fix tho untill this thing goes a few weeks with out a problem, thanks for all the input! |

| I've seen instances where other components fry other components. On D model Apaches I've seen a heat modulating valve short out internally and fry ECS DCUs. I imagine Bushmaster is the only dude that knows what I'm talking aboot. Although I did have a commander who was a former USAF crew chief tell me the AH-64D has a similar ECS to the F-15. |

Bitching Betty and master caution warning is the same in the Hornet and Eagle... Boeing connection??
I was sick of replacing those DCUs, which you initially troubleshot by swapping them, not in a very accessible area either... blah... |
