Hi folks!
Hoping you can help me out:
I just found this photo over at 31st Aviano Tail Spotter's webpage: http://www.31atsg.it/F-16AV/2010/F-16CM_89-2010.jpg
As I found this strange, and never could remember to have seen 89-2010 as a tail number of the 31FW 555FS (or 510FS for that matter) I had to
check the database here.
But from the listing here, 89-2010 is a block 42: http://www.f-16.net/aircraft-database/F ... file/2858/
Apparently still flying with the 138FW 125FS ?
So, which is it? Has 89-2010 undergone a "change" from Block 42 to 40, or is there another story behind this puzzle?
PS! The pic in the first link was uploaded March 31st, so no jokes ! |

Quite interesting indeed. The spacing of the numbers on the tail appear...odd. All of the airliners.net hits have it at Tulsa as a B42 as late as 2007. Got nothing when searching for "89-010" or when narrowing the search to Aviano and 89-2010. If the pic's a forgery it's a damn good one!
Here's the airliners.net pic listing |

| The nozzle in the first link looks like an F110=Blk 40. |

This indeed is a strange thing yes.
I think we have to ask one of the Aviano service men.

The first link I provided is definatelly a block 40, and when looking at the numbers on the nose, they appear genuine.
As for the spacing on the tail number, the same spread have also been seen on 89-2011 and 89-2016, so I don't find that supicious either.
If they did put a GE engine into 89-2010, what about the air intake? Has that been changed too? |

| A three-year old version of the flight manual lists it as a Block 42 that was supposed to be updated with a PW229. |

| Yes it is still in Tulsa, has not yet upgraded to the -229. Boman, I have to disagree the picture is a block 42, the nozzles are closed which deceptivley makes it look like an F110. Now whether it really is 2010, well your guess is as good as mine. It is possible it may have been on loan to Aviano, but they normally don't re-paint tails for loaned aircraft. Anybody happen to know when this pic was taken. |

With enough effort and expenditure, it could be done I think. Not worth it for just one jet tho, IMHO. Requesting a replacement from another Block 40 unit would be easier and less expensive. |

| I was stationed at AV in 07...and was the DCC of 2011, and I never remember seeing a 2010 in the Triple Pickle. And I know this photo cant be too recent because I've only been gone since May of 08 and a good number of the birds there where either at CCIP or already back from it, and this is PRE-CCIP. As stated above, its a photo-shopped picture |
