I am F-16 Crew chief by trade (6 years experience) but have worked transient alert for 3 years on 40+ different airframes.
Looking for contract work middle east. I have heard a couple places have contract TA in the middle east. Anybody know anything? |

| At Sheppard, my last base, they had contract TA that was run by L3. Maybe they have it other places too. You can check them out?? |

| Sounds like his enlistment is coming to an end and doesn't quite have his degree and has heard you can go to the middle east work on vipers and make six figures. I have been in that situation....re-enlist cross train to imagery analysis (Intel) and get a job at Boeing making close to six figures.........I didn't do that but wish I had |

I have to agree with TEG TA bash. It's fun for a little while. You get to play with aircraft that you normally wouldn't but it gets boring as hell pretty quick. It doesn't do much to advance a mechanic's skills... |

In response to the post from "that engine guy" :
"T.A. Crew Chief", um, hang on a minute, sit back down, I'll go get the guys a round...
Here ya go, fellers, I got glasses instead of a pitcher. Classier, eh? Engine dude, here's yours, and your ten spot back. No, that's all right, it's on me. Taste good? Oh, by the way, I think there's a mixture of spittle and urine in yours. Jeez, guy, don't vomit all over the table, go out in the street!
...and the Aircraft Mechanics go back to having fun, in our Al Ain courtyard...

It's funny people assume a lot on these forums 1) im 33 with a masters degree in Law (so not so much a kid) 2) been out of the military since 2005. My wife currently is in the air force and we are stationed in germany. I am looking to go to the middle east and make a quick six figures to put 50% down on a house. TA is very a glorfied valet for generals and senetors. However, it does allow me to make pretty good money while working very little.
So really I could do without the smarta** coments and just go with good information.
Thanks |

so apparently having a law degree doesn't mean you can spell senator (they work in the Senate). |

Did you get your red X 7-level engine run? Most contracts don't absolutely require it, but it makes things *much* easier. A few months after I got to the UAE last year, LM was so desperate for APG bodies they dropped that prerequisite. Air Guard signoffs with a few weekends L&R experience were showing up... However, at Al-Dhafra you have to pay for your rental car and apartment taxes, which drops your pay somewhat. Dyncorp has the Oman contract, but kinda lousy conditions. Daedalus has pretty good pay in Scandanavia, but the contracts are year to year. None pay 6 figures- Don't know where that story started. Ballpark, you're looking at 50-70K a year, if you live veeeery cheaply, and stay outta the bars. (Not a problem in Oman) The recruiter contact numbers are all in these "job" forums, or I can send them to you in a private message. And no, I'm not looking for any referral bonus money...
Hey, nothing wrong with T.A.! Be proud of your 6 years. Oh, mind the puke from that engine guy, I think he crawled off behind the Abela grocery store to pass out. Hope he has his liquor license on him...
