what's the hardest part of working on the F-16?
Probably catching a gear door corner in the small of the back. |

That hurts.
I am 6'4 and not as swift and nimble as I thought! |

Or when you've got 88's on Sta 3 or 7 plus 9's on 2 or 8. Lot's of sharp wings and fins to get you. Ouch! |

| I have been workiing on F16's for 25 years. The hardest thing to work, on an F16, is most definately the 15 years egress time change items... center consols, rudder pedals, etc. |

Oh... Loader2088... ever had 2206 open and, after servicing LOX, stand up and smack your head on the corner of that panel?!?!?! Thats why most CC's round the corner of that panel with a file. Just two months ago, I witnessed a man run his head into the TE of the flap... scalped him 4" across and all the way to his skull. |

It took me 20 years as an Avionics Tech (pointyhead) to discover the toughest job on the F-16, bar none! For me, that was walking away from it after 20 years of loving every minute of maintaining it! Reading through all the posts on this topic brought back so many fantastic memories! Thanks for that! My favorite highlight of 20 years was becoming the first avionics guy to be run qualified on BLK 40's at Moody in the 69th which gave me about 50 opportunities I didn't have to touch a hydraulic mule for troubleshooting FLCS issues! Anyway, 12 years past working them and I still run to the window if I hear something that even sounds remotely like a fighter jet in the sky... |

| as a fuels system guy I would say a right wing change, trying to get those damn fingerbrace bolts out with the FFP and FOHE and all those lines in the way sucks, the bellmouth on a F1 cell change is a close second, as for stuff found on a jet from depot, we had a rash of #2 boost pump lights out when the jets were comming back form som mod (I think it was the CCIP mod or somthing like that) and it turned out that someone was forgeting to reconnect the #2 BP cannon plug under the little panel (can't rember the panel #) above the left main gear door. I also found a lunch bag complete W/ a burst can of coke and a nasty sandwich while doing a ETAM in the engine bay of a F-15E that just got back from depot when I was at Nellis. |
