Getting Man back on the Moon (but NOT constructing Dr. Evil's secret "Lair")

The Moon space base would be not much more than a small scientific research lab and accommodation for the scientists, that's all, just for research purposes.

What we have here, is a failure, to, communicate....

Let me make one thing CRYSTAL FOXTROTTING CLEAR:

There WILL more than likely NEVER be a permanent moon-exploration/research/whatEVER base. Earth's space-exploration agencies have enough trouble just getting people INTO space, leaving them on the Moon for extended periods of time is highly risky.

If you're banking on seeing humans living on the moon in your lifetime, I suggest you start buying lottery tickets (you've got a better chance of seeing a jackpot-winning ticket than seeing man living on the Moon.)

And if you can't keep from discussing these hair-brained ideas, might I suggest a different forum--like Above Top Secret? F-16.net is for serious and mature aviation fans...two characteristics I believe you may be lacking in.

Constellation has the potential to work for the most part, but I'm curious as to how this "bouncing landing" is going to work. I'm guessing that it won't be coming down in Florida....I could see the thing bouncing into Disneyland....and squishing Mickey... Evil or Very Mad

I'm just going off the video I saw of that Mars lander doing an impression of the Galazy's biggest Superball.

Go to 1:21 in the video. Seems like they're working on a chute/airbag based land recovery. Cool

Plenty of land around Edwards...

Anyone notice the news today? The big meeting between the President and the GOP takes top billing, then his speech on reducing green-house gas emissions.... all set to be done the same day the Whitehouse drops the NASA budget bomb-shell? Privatizing manned space flight vehicles and killing the Constellation program?

WTF Like they didn't plan it!?!
The only news I've even seen running it on TV is Fox. You have to scroll through a page or two of US News on Google before you find the NASA story. (not on the news home page at all!)

Why doesn't he just say it like this? "I'm going to create more jobs, but first we need to save money by having NASA lay off 10s of thousands of people from the aerospace industry due to cancelled government contracts... Just like all the money we saved by not buying Raptors and putting those aerospace workers in the welfare lines..."

Maybe they can go to work building the high-speed trains that nobody will ride? The US populace don't ride the trains we have!? Who's going to take a train from Chicago to Atlanta if the cost is similar but the trip takes twice as long as flying?

I just hope it's too early to say "I told you so"? Maybe Constellation will have more Congressional support than the Raptor did?

"Commercial crew launches" Maybe we can get tickets on Space Ship One for our astronauts? Doh

Keep 'em flyin' Thumb
