With respect and understanding of circumstances this event seems to bring RMAF, it seems only rational that during this rather uncertain, prolonged global financial break down that even wealthier nations should be 'tightening up', altering plans and making various delays. Nothing should come as surprising these days.

Q. will these Viper slots now be marketed or made available to another interested party?

Respects to Morocco.

Why does everyone call Falcons, Vipers? It sounds cheezy, like a 12 year old came up with it?? Air Force, does not name its fighters after snakes. Army might have back in the day, but im pretty sure that the Air-Force doesnt. Im pretty sure that a man won a contest, and hince the name that was given, Fighting Falcon, which sounds LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER THAN Viper??

It is not an official USAF name, the pilots and maintainers affectionately refer to the 16 as the Viper. Kind of like how F-18 guys call the Hornet the Rhino. Personally, I am not sure where the nickname started, but it has been around for a very long time. Maybe one of the older guys here can give a good explanation.

From What I have seen, only the E/F models are called 'rhino's'. This is the call sign used so the deck crew do not use incorrect Cat/trap settings. As anyone here knows, the E/F are much heaver, need more line tension to land, and Cat power to launch. Of course you could damage an old Bug with the Super's settings..... This is also why the Navy Hawkeye's have different symbols on the nose, due to weights.

Also the Rhino was previously used for the F-4 as well, but they had a big snout at least! Two Cents

I was just working with the menewsline.com story, that's all. A confirmation and follow up info would help, agreed.

Never really heard heard Morocco described as a 'wealthy nation,' but hey....

Quote:
Morocco, strapped for funding, has delayed its F-16
multi-role fighter program.
Industry sources said Morocco has delayed delivery of the F-16 for at
least two years. They said the first F-16 would arrive in the North African
kingdom no earlier than 2012.

Was referring to wealthier countries even (misplacement of word 'even', sry), who might also be expected to 'tighten up', alter plans and delay, etc.

Hi geogen, sorry but this site is BSing on the hole line, not the very accurate source
example
http://www.menewsline.com/article-1622- ... rn-Ai.aspx
it was not lybia bying C27J,but morocco Wink

or this
http://www.menewsline.com/article-13993 ... OM-BE.aspx
belgium has not 46 helicopters in orbat, and morocco is not interested in old stuff actually

so,it´s all about senstional,to sell infos..they write always about "financial problems" but the facts are talking other language

Bruce Tanner talked on 20.october about deliveries of 20/21 F-16 in 2010,so at least morocco will have his first on 2011 if not 2010,turkey is assembling their kits at home

if you see the last DSCA notifications and commercial contracts(last 6 months),we have:

-18.May/ for 1 G550 (142M$)
-9. sept/ support equipement for F16 (187M$),(2nd batch,the first was placed july 08 )
-25 Sept/ 30M$ deal for Sniper ATP
-26 Oct/ 3 Chinook D (134M$)
-15 Nov/ contracts for AIM-120 C7
-13 oct/ 24 T-6C Texan II trainer for 185M$(first customer)
doest it sound like a country with financial problems??

not to talk about contracts in europe(FREMM/SIGMA frigates/mirage F1 upgrade...)so if you don´t know about morocco,it sounds like a poor country,it´s not that big rich country like UAE or Saoudi arabia, but it has good improving economics, and they´re in progress with a big 10 years army modernisation plan that concern all aereas, next you will hear about M1A1 and C-130J..
