Dirty DEIDs...Done Dirt Cheap! The sound of the BONEs taking off from there, was always a welcome one to me. |

You definitely can't mistake the noise a Bone makes on take-off! Been working on them for 6 years now and it never gets old....

Hey, afdude, did you happen to know a Bei Beidinger or Robert Robertson? Kind of weird that they both have names like that, but I remember Robertson from Tech-School. He was a couple of classes behind me if I remember correctly and Bei came down to Dyess to help us out when our shop was deployed to Oman the first time. I also did my FTD training at Ellsworth before they decided to moved FTD to Dyess. So, you are still at Ellsworth? When do you get out?

I work with a couple of old buff troops and that's all I hear about. Ofcourse, I always speak of the B-1s, but that's easy when I work T-38 and T-6 aircraft now. I miss the view of the B-1 taking off at night and the fact that they are so loud, especially when they did the low-level fly-overs on Friday afternoons at Dyess.

Know what you mean...was pretty tough work them hogs but I never bragged about even after being on 6 different airframes now. Out of all, believe I am more particular to the 16, but that's personal choice. Only had opportunity to see 1 flyover of a B-1, and yes, I was very impressed. How you like the trainers now? You straight civilian (GS)? Used to work T-33's & only touched a 38 on an assist. Best to you!!

Actually, it's a civilian contract w/ Lear Sieglers Service, Inc. The contract is going to be taken over by Dyncorp on the 1st of November, though. I wish it was a civil service job. I have a feeling it may be possible in the future, though.

Hopefully in your case as more security vs. the uncertainty with the contracting world....Good example is what happened to Dynaorp/UAE

Just a note of advice to any active duty egress personnel seeking civil service or contract egress jobs. As a former egress troop who retired from the Air Force about 8 years ago, I'm fully aware that it's normal for a person to desire to continue doing a job they've enjoyed doing for 4 years or 20-plus years. However, egress system maintenance is a very specialized career field with limited opportunities to be found within the civilian sector compared to other aviation career fields. As such, job seekers can broaden their opportunities by not focusing solely upon egress jobs and instead considering other career fields (including non-aviation) in which their ancillary training, education & experience may be utilized. For example, someone with supply or mobility program experience may want to explore jobs in logistics, someone with safety program experience may want to consider jobs in the safety arena, etc. If an egress tech separating from active duty is hell-bent upon remaining in egress, their best option may be the Air Reserve Technician (ART) program which periodically has full-time egress vacancies (active duty retirees normally are NOT eligible for entry into the ART program).
