Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to fit the F-119 engine into the Viper. That's 35 000 lbs of thrust in contrast to 25 000 - 30 000 lbs what F-100/F-110 (which btw, actually are at the very edge of it's development) offers would give a Viper enormous extra kick For future moderization and a new Blocks of the F-16 does it possible at all? I know that the F-135 is too big, but F-119 seems to be good. Is it? Could you make a little feedback please in advance.

Having worked both jets, the engines are not even close. There are just too many dimensional differences; not to mention the software that would be required.
What the AF should do is retrofit all Block 40s and 50s with the GE-132; now that would be not only feasable, but a practical upgrade. It'll never happen with the F-35 coming on lines, but it would be nice.

Unfortunately not.
The first problem that would be encountered would be space.
The -119 may very well be larger than the -110 or -229. Mounting points within the fuselage to support the engine are very different between each engine.
Those issues doesn't even include costs of the engines, modifications that need to be made, and flight testing that need to follow. Let alone Congress approving the cost to perform this type of modification.

Actually, the F119 is similiar in size, though in some areas like the exhaust duct diameter, it's slightly smaller. The main dimensionsal problem is that the F119 is quite a bit shorter than a GE 110 or Pratt 100.
Average cost of the F119 is what a the F-16A cost when it first came off the production line; 16Mil! So yeah, not practical by a long shot.

The F119 may be 'similar' in size, but the inlet is larger than the F100/F110 and so is the maximum diameter of the engine.
Anyone who has put an engine into a Viper will tell you there are only a couple inches of clearance on around the engine at specific spots when it installed, some places even less.
There are also airflow requirements that would need to be addressed, I'm guessing that the F119 will use more air than the F110 due to it's size and performance.
F-15 maybe with a few minor adjustments to the engine bays that would still take lots of engineering, but F-16 no way.
