I caught this one landing at Fort Worth the other day...Tail # 009 with the US Stars and Bars are the only markings. There is what looks to be painted over square on the tail...is this 06-0009 Greek with US markings?

Sorry for the quality...it was a warm morning and I need more lens...

Thanks
Z

Hmmmm,

Can´t see the photo but it sure sounds like one of the new Greek ones.

They are ferried with US markings as they are "formally" still owned by the US until reaching the country in question.

Greetings,

Henrik.

I thought all the Hellenic F-16s were blk 52+? That looks like a F110 in the jet. Or at least thats no 229 I've seen before. It does stick out past the horizontal stabs though. It belongs to someone foreign though seeing how it has a parachute. Maybe its a Turkish F-16.

What the?????? It is a F110 indeed - but a Greek one, no doubt!!

Remember TimmyMan that the Greek fly Block-50s ( and Block-30s ) from previous orders in the 1980s ( Block-30s ) and 1990s ( Block-50s ).

Whjat puzzeles me is that the Greek Block-30s run in the 1xx series ( 110 - 143 for the F-16Cs and 144 - 149 for the F-16Ds ).

The Greek Block-50s run in the 0xx seriws ( 045 - 076 for the F-16Cs and 077 - 084 for the F-16Ds ).

Interesting.

I was just going of the 06-009 designation the OP gave and figured it was like the USAF's system of numbering meaning since the first two were 06 that the jet was ordered in 06. Intresting indeed

I am just guessing at the 06-009 number...It does look to be Greek via the paint. The tail # on this one is 009... so....

I'll grant that it' prolly a Greek jet. But it's definitely a P/W engine. The shadow cast by the right side board make it deceiving.

Here's a picture of 003 on it's ferry flight from an ARC user. Note the almost-identical camo scheme on the tail. And it also has a P/W motor.

Hi guys,

Indeed Greece has ordered GE engined block 30s and 50s in the past, but their latest orders are all for the PW engined block 52 version. Why this shift in engine has occured suprises me since this poses a greater maintenance challenge. But hey, politics is something we don't want to get into, right?

Greets,

I think you are all tricked by shadows here - the latest batch for Greece are all Block 52's.

They discovered with the early Block 30's that the small mouth intake didn't provide enough air for the GE-engine, hence they came up with the big mouth concept.

09 is definatelly for Greece; http://www.f-16.net/aircraft-database/F ... file/4885/

009 should have arrived at Araxos on 2 September 2009.
