| http://www.answers.com/topic/feres-doctrine This has gone on for a long time, my grandmother was a civil sevice nurse at Chanute AFB in the 50s to the 70s , she used to tell us many stories about how people were screwed up by the hospital. Stupid me didn't remember and I myself was a victim. Also civilians working for the Military can't be sued. Feres was in the Army, housed in a barracks that the Army knew had defective furnaces, the barracks caught fire and I believe everyone was burned to death, maybe that's why we posted fire guards in boot camp. |

2. Around 95 or 96, there was an Army SFC who jumped for the Golden Knights. He collided with a teammate during practice. Unfortunately, his partner was killed, but he survived with both of his legs lost during the collision. He was fitted with prosthetics and was able to return, not only to active duty, but one more season with the Golden Knights.
Good call TC - hopefully Colton Read can heal well enough that he'll be able to continue to serve, just as Dana Bowman was able to. I met Dana at NAS Oceana back in '07, what an amazing person. I'd almost be surprised if he hasn't already been in contact with Colton's family...

Can't remember where I read about that young man, but what an unbelievable spirit he has. And truly an inspiring story. I saw footage of the collision that took the life of his teamate and both his legs. It was a horendous collision. He was very lucky to have lived through it. |

I don't think I've ever met a single person, irregardless of their physical condition, who has less of a disability than Dana Bowman. I only hope that Airman Read can take some inspiration from someone like him, who simply refused to allow such a horrible accident to slow him down. Truthfully we could probably ALL learn something from Dana's story.

I think They should throw there @$$ in Leavenworth. According to the Fox story on it if they would have gotten him to the surgen downt town he never would have lost his legs they had six hours to do so. And yet they took 8 hours to get him there sound's like Nonners trying to Cover Nonner @$$. If I would have accidentally snipped a Hydrolic line on my bird and not done something right then and there to fix it or tell the Sup well we all know how $hit rolls down hill. But the Wife (couse she is a CIV) Can Sue the Hospitial just like when TRICARE got there computer's stolen ACTIVE duty could do nothing but put a froud alert out But Your Family(as long as they were CIV) and or spouse could Sue them to the wall. the only time they cant sue is when it is a combat related injury or Death. but it would probley cost more to Sue the GOVT than it's worth And I wish them luck and my hopes are with them and I hope they do find a job for him and keep him.
Holy sh*t man. Your post made my head hurt. It is absurd to compare working on aircraft hydraulics to a doctor performing surgery. They aren't even on the same planet in difficulty. This doctor WILL be punished in some shape or form. There are three investigations going on to figure it out. Things WILL change as the publicity is too great. There is no lawsuit possible from any party IAW with the Feres doctrine.
I suggest you take a breath (of air, not JP8) and focus on your job. |
