No one blames the pilots for the problems, as they (you) were flying by the book.

Well got another for the list.
The Tornado F-3.
As of the end of September; only MPA (Falklands) and Northern QRA will be supported; a year ahead of schedule and 7-8 months before 6 Squadron standup at Leuchars on Typhoon. Meaning that 43 and 111 Squadrons wills stand down.
So for the latter part of 2009 and almost half of 2010; apart from a couple of QRA F-3's at Leuchars; the entire of the UK's air defence force is operating from a single base with a total of 49 Typhoons.
Real smart Mr Brown, what are you gonna f*** up next?

We maintain/ed a lot of old Vipers and 78-0088 was the first Viper to do 6K in ’01 … that was stenciled on the gear door. I got to Eddy in ’02 and by ’03 we were pushing the (I thought block 10’s) small tails to the yard … I don’t think she made 7K before she left.
Darkvarkguy … I think the Nacelle Former cracks killed the F-111 for us (at least E’s) Shame … only the later serial numbers got the AMP mod! All that went to waste a few years later when they went to the yard.
You got to admit though, when you came to work as a swing shifter, 90% of the radomes were open, at least two were going to the Hush House, you turned -60’s like NASCAR and you never held your breath for anything under a 12-hour shift! Maintenance Intensive with a dash of expensive! |

Maybe the 'E' models were that bad but our FB/G models all got the AMP mods and really didn't break that much and I did work Swing shift. Post-AMP flying meant a lot less 'Red Balls'. Also come to think of it I don't remember ANYTHING about problems with the Nacelle Formers. Then again our SAC pilots flew them more like bombers than fighters so that may have been less airframe stress. |

F-111 was a strong gal … I had the unfortunate task of picking up a Class A in the Wash in England.
The jet hit the water @ 600 knots plus … I tell you one thing that sticks in my mind … what was left of the wings, were still attached to the wing carry thru box via the pivot pins we lubed every 25 hrs! |

Thanks for the link Varkvet. I was long gone by the time that was published, no wonder I don't remember it. |
