I've been noticing AGE and MUNS equipment being painted gray now... just wondering what the Air Force is trying to do?

the only thing i can come up with is that the gray is like a base coat of what they paint air craft with. and its cheaper in the long run to use the gray paint instead of gray and green?

what else do they plan on changing to gray? GOVs

When I was at Robins I notices the grey theme also. Haven't seen anything grey here at Nellis exept Nit carts.

Grey is "low-vis" on concrete, and is a "shade" versus a color. The shade works well in any type of environment.

On the other hand you have green and tan; green AGE stood out like a sore thumb in the desert, and tan stands out bad in woodland/grass situations.

Just my Two Cents TEG

I know our engine trailers (3000/4000) are gray now. (At least the ones that have been recently painted) TEG

Nope. All AGE is being primed and painted with it's own shade of gray. It's not the same gray used on the jets- unless somebody in your paint shop screws up. I've seen AGE gray drop tanks before... Doh

Green stuff gets very hot in the sun …. It can be 35 degrees outside and you can lean on a green -60 and get heat if it’s been sitting in the sun. (kind of like a reptiles hot rock) I do it all the time waiting for a crew and it’s freezing outside.
I can’t count the times I burned myself touching green age or crew ladders that have been lying in the summer sun. Even if you were gloves … you still burn your elbows strapping in a crew if you’re not careful.
LN carts have been gray for a while or the nitrogen would excessively vent away.

I don’t think camouflage with the ramp has anything to do with it … I don’t think the enemy will waste a bomb on a -60 because he can see it. Might as well bomb AGE because half the s**ts broken over there anyways!

Don’t mind me, because I’m going to be pissy for a while …

That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it.

Back when I was at Kunsan in '83, the wing commander's car was painted up as the "Wolfmobile", it was painted two-tone grey, like the vipers and had the "wolf" painted on the side. (later they painted the "mach-2 wolf" on the side.... It was great, a real morale booster, and something "fun" on an otherwise lousy remote assignment...

The new wing commander in '84, made them paint it back to AF Blue with a white top.... (Other than being way too, "by the book", he was actually a decent guy....
