It's official as of today: This July 4th, Lady Liberty's crown will reopen to visitors. The entire statue portion of the monument has been closed to the public since the attacks. Visitors were only allowed as high as the top floor of the pedestal. Now, the Secretary of the Interior has made it official that tourists can once again make the climb up the very narrow spiral staircase to the top of the statue.
Welcome back Ol' Girl! We've missed you very much! |

I will never forget a trip up those narrow stairs when I was a kid. At the time, one of the windows in the crown was broken and we took turns poking our heads out the hole. Really cool for an eighth-grader to do (1971?)
Best Regards, |
