| If you're with the 425th, tell Shredder he's a clown. We were wingy's together at Moody (69FS) and at the Kun. I'm sure he'll figure out who I am. |

Shredder (49th, but Shredder and I are good buds) just got picked up for the T-birds.... We're doomed. There is nothing quite like the pleasure of toning the T-bird taxi call at Nellis.....

Yep. He was out here about 3 weeks ago trying to schmooze some rides as part of the IEP. Dallas Horton and Kid Sloane got picked up for the Thunderchickens as well.
Shredder is the All-American poster child for them. He'll go far. |

Ok, I just found out what PRK means. Whew, good thing I didn't get LASIK done yet. I think I'm going to beat the hell out of my friend because he's the one that told me the AF accepts LASIK now. Maybe he meant PRK...Anyway, thanks for your help.
LASIK=Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis
PRK = Photorefractive Keratectomy
In LASIK a corneal flap is cut (in the epithelium), lifted up and laser surgery is done.
In PRK the epithelium is basically scraped off. The LASIK advocates claim faster healing time and associated patient comfort. The problem is that there is quite a bit of reseach indicating that the epithelium flap can become detatched (even several years later) due to multiple factors, such as a sharp blow to the head. This is why the USAF does not allow LASIK for aircrew. I believe (but will not state unequivically) that LASIK is allowed for USAF ground personelle.
Other things to keep in mind,for both procedures:
1) Mild correction works better than large correction.
2) You need to be certain a large enough area is corrected. It does you not good if they correct a 5mm diamater spot and give you excellent day vision but you need glasses at night.
3) There is always a chance (small) that you will end up with eyesight uncorectable to 20/20. No guarantees of anything in this life.
4) There are no comprehensive studies that I know of regarding the effects of these procedures on visual acuity using NVGs or other head mounted devices. |

(yep, I'm still a newbie to [Link pending approval])
For KickURanus,
I'm glad to see that last post on [Link pending approval] of this forum Kick, I almost released the 'Quit being a SH*T-BAG!!' [Link pending approval] if you want to improve yourself, especially if you're "into the military thing", NEVER make another excuse, I'm serious. The fact that you posted an "OK, I surrender!" should be a red flag in your life.
'Gums' is a great man. He is very knowledgeable and very eager to share that knowledge, a simple 'Thanks Gums, I appreciated it' would have made you a lot better off. He would probably have offered some invaluable info. Here's the bottom line kid, if you're stupid about something keep it at that and improve yourself, don't turn into stubborn AND stupid. We want to help you! I've never seen Ol' Gums make a cut at someone without genuine intent to help, if I were you I'd hang on to his knowledge and let more in, not chase him out with a stick because you're still a stubborn teenager. Pride is essential to a mans growth and development but NEVER EVER EVER be too proud to admit you are wrong, no matter the situation. Good luck to you in your [Link pending approval]
I would definitely recommend enlisting first, then try for a UPT slot, or do AFROTC. That way you get all straightened out and you learn the ropes from the enlisted corps (I know all about that), so you can "Do It Right The First Time" or the acronym DIRTF(oo)T. Oh and by the way the "() thingies" are called parenthesis. Enjoy your Service!! Drive on war dog, and read Gums' Bio in the Interviews portion of this site, yes, you'll feel like crap for some of the things you said, but hopefully you'll respect Lt. Col. Pat McAdoo (ret), it's the amazing men like him that made aviation what it is.
SALUTE! and PLEASE try not to burn anymore bridges man; we'll get into flight school! Please contact me Via PM, I'll offer some good ideas.
Some love from Afghanistan,
Hoop
