Does anyone know of any egress positions that might be available? Preferably on the ACES II seats, but anything regarding the egress systems would be alright. These jobs are difficult to find and I was just wondering if there is something out there that I don't know about.

You can search for gov't (civil service) egress vacancies at www.usajobs.gov by entering 6652 in the "series search" block. The website is pretty much now the only way you can apply for gov't civil service positions and it requires an online resume. In addition to any civil service vacancies, it also advertises a long list of projected active duty egress vacancies which can be readily identified by the Air Force Personnel Center being listed as the owning agency. Edwards periodically has vacancies in the WG-10 & WG-11 pay grades and Tinker also sometimes advertises similar egress vacancies for the depot side of the house. Civil service egress slots less frequently open up at UPT bases such as Randolph and Laughlin (T-6 and T-38 trainer aircraft fitted with Martin-Baker Mk16 seats). The most common civil service egress vacancies are found at AF Reserve or Air National Guard bases which of course requires membership in the respective branch. Civilian contractor egress jobs can still be found at a few bases but they're far less common than they were 10-20 years ago. In either case, multi-aircraft/multi-system experience and/or an A & P license will definitely help to make you more marketable.

As Jammer stated...In addition, is good to have a working resume get evaluated first (Can take up to 4 months) and graded through the AF Reserve OPM system. Of course these people who grade your merits of your resume most likely had or have an AFSC of 702 as most of us (Myself in particular) been in the Egress field over 20 years but would get a low qualifying score (Go figure). Is not something you can complete within 1 week, again take your time and put together a proper resume according to AFPC guidelines and submit. Hiring officials mostly know this and will speak to you directly if interested, but still you need to be in the "system." Hope this helps a bit more, and good luck.

You can also check the sites of some of the major contractors such as LMCO, BAE, Northrop. I believe LMCO is hiring some positions at PAX River for the JSF flight test.

We not only build up and install the system on new aircraft, but we are also involved with mod aircraft coming in from the field. They always seem to be looking for people to work Egress in UAE and some of the other countries in that area. I bleieve those jobs are through Lockheed. If you want ACES II specific, you could always try Goodrich directly. They are in Colorado Springs.

Thanks for all of the help, everyone. I actually was hired with Lear Siegler at Sheppard AFB a couple of weeks ago. Although, I don't have any canopy experience, since I only worked ACES II seats on the B-1, but with all of the T-38s and T-6s, I'm definitely learning fast. Thanks again for the help, everyone. I still think the ACES II is a better seat, though.

I just applied for an Egress opening at Sheppard. Working on the b-1's right now.

You are currently working B1s??? Are you at Dyess? I spent my whole 6 year in the Air Force there. If so, do you know Toby? He is my old supervisor and good friend of mine.

I'm stationed at Ellsworth. Ended up spending my entire 6 years at Ellsworth. Also looks like the job listing for Sheppard was cancelled...

Nope, not cancelled. We are going through a contract change and Dyncorp is taking over the contract. I was a B-1 troop as well. I was at Dyess the whole time I was in. Maybe I know you.

ah... That would be why the job disappeared from the urs website. Yeh you never know could have met when we swapped out on deployments.
