Today, with all the politically correct crapola, we would not have had the "Faggot" back in the Korean War. Heh heh.
BTW, the Kfir was "Young Lion" in Hebrew, wasn't it?
Gums, it was Fagot--a bunch of sticks.
Kfir was "Lion Cub" the Lavi (the one they stopped development on) was "Young Lion" |

More F-words for the potential NATO codename for the PAK-FA
In the “Never underestimate your opponent” column:
Freelance, Fearsome, Fadeout, Flashy & Future
In the “It will never make it to the merge” column:
Fragment, Flamer, Fumble, Fireball & Fizzle
Those foreign customers desiring the cheap, lightweight version will be given the “Finger”

The NATO codename you're looking for is right here:
Firefox.
Sukhoi Su-50 Firefox is PAK FA |

1) I really don't believe in all the NATO codenames being totally random--the MiG-29 was said to be good enough that if it had been manned right in WWIII it would have been the "Fulcrum" on which the battle turned--IIRC that was sometime before its EIS.
2) Believing in the names not really being random, something with "fox" in the name would probably only come up with the next MiG interceptor--especially if it's a MiG-25 derivative.
3) Mozilla would go ape.
4) It was already unofficially used in a movie, so I think they'll avoid the name Firefox anyway. |

Considering the Mikoyan design bureau's financial situation, that would be the
"Foxrupt"

out,
I believe the ever so wise Gums has it correct- I've seen it stated that way and also as "Lion Cub" in some documentation here and there. |

I think it was kinda dumb for IAI to make two planes that look darn similar to outsiders (but not me) and then give them very similar names. The main reason I think the Kfir is "Lion Cub" and Lavi is "Young Lion" is that the Kfir was first, and then by the time they were working on the Lavi, the technology had matured somewhat. |
