I spoke with the guy on the gate that day. He's experienced and highly motivated. When the truck ran at the gate he immediately hit the barrier button. Unfortunately, the truck was already over the sensors that deactivate it. Why have the sensors? So a vehicle isn't over the barrier when it comes up and inadvertantly damage a car or hurt an innocent person. Hmmm?
The bigger question is why the book was thrown away and a big cocktail party erupted before ANYONE had determined whether or not the ruck did in fact have explosives on board?
