Sorry if I overlooked any related info already posted on this forum! But in Jake Melampy's book "The Modern Viper Guide - The F-16C/D Exposed" (page 16) I only found pictures of the "standard" version with the common two slits just behind the muzzle. But there's at least another version. What's the reason of that? And: Are the access panels for both versions interchangeable?

The aircraft in the photo is a Block 15 "A" Model, maybe they changed them between the earlier models and the later C's and D's.....

The version pictured above is actually the old style gun port (door2405). Most of the A and B model operators replaced them with the now standard two slot version. They are made from cast steel and are interchangable.

FWIW, the panel number (2405) never seems to have changed from the original port with slots in front and back. It is the current panel number used in production. Indeed, it is made from a steel investment casting, then machined to accept fittings.
