Another thing I'm wondering--I've read that the Nimitz-class can't launch fully-loaded jets from the #4 Cat, will the Ford-Class be able to launch the jets loaded out?

I ask only because the two ships use the same hullform.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of catapults they'll use on the new carriers. The old tried and true stream catapults or the newer electromagnetic catapults (which may or may not answer your question of launching from the #4 catapult plplauthor) see http://www.defensenews.com/story.php?i=4025066

Thanks for the link, but it's not about the cats, but more about their placement relative to other machinery/equipment on the deck. It wasn't anything about the cats themselves--since all four would be the same setup--right?

I don't think that EMALS is going to be abandoned--the savings gained through plumbing and all the other assorted doohickeys, thingamajigs, and gizmos should make up for the delay in new technology.

I tend to agree, but along with your original question I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
