Does anyone know if it is possible to get into the air national guard as a reservist for a pilot slot without having to quit my full time job? I am in a position that I can't get away from for a complet year and a half. Any advice is great. Thanks,

No you can't do pilot training broken up. You don't have to quit your job tho. you take a military leave of absense they protect us national guard and reserve members. goto http://www.ESGR.org and read up on the subject.
If you want to be a military pilot nothing will stand in your way if you really want it. If you don't want it bad enough don't bother, your then wasting the unit's money and a slot for someone who deserves it. |

I would hope you don't have to quit your day job. From the charts I've seen the pay for pilots in the guard isn't all that great. (Yes, I know it's not about the salary it's about the benefits). On the other hand, I never really bothered to learn how the payscale/drill pay works because I don't care and I'm willing to be a pilot for free. lol

| Racer181 is right. Also, for some units, they will ASK when you are availale to go to pilot training IF they select you. i've seen folks wait 1-2 years after getting selected before they leave for pilot training. |

| If you track fighters, UPT is just about one full year (for all pilots), with another 6 mos. combined, IIRC, of LIFT and then the RTU. If Maddog, F16guy, or ScratchinmySix can see this thread, they could give you the best info. |
