| Am I wrong or has every US tactical airframe except the F-16 and A-4 had slime lights? Why no formation lights? |

F-16 Block 60's have them, another one that doesn't is the F-5 and they were not used exclusively as Aggressors.
I've had several folks on the Block 60 program with years of fighter experience ask me what they were for.
Good post vegas. |

| I thought the (apparently pre-block 60) F-16s had IR LEDs that served the same purpose when used with NVGs? |

I know our Block 50's we had got those LEDs around with the intake and wings lights when they went to the CCIP phase 2 mod. |

Hi,
I remember seeing a picture of a WA-coded F-16C (422nd TES?) that actually had a slime light more or less diagonal over the upper part of the vertical tail. Since it hasn't become the standard, the benefit may not have been proven and the program was cancelled. Time frame would be mid-nineties.
HTH,
Joris |

| They look like yellowish tan strips on the fuselage sides, tail fins, and wing tips of certain military aircraft. However, at night time they looked like lime green glow sticks on a dimmer switch. Actually they looked pretty cool then. Check out any F-15 or F/A-18 pics and you will see them. |
