Oh great. A bomber guy.
Somewhere Curtis LeMay is doing pushups in his grave without the use of his hands...
The new CoS is a dark patch transport guy...even if it is -130s. I'm already hating the Blues Mondays. I wonder what else he's gonna Foxtrot up? |

Well LeMay was a bomber guy and some remedial reading is required. Look into Operation "Mule Train" where, in 1961,he deployed some C-123's to Tan Son Nhut in support the South Vietnamese forces. He insisted this was the best aircraft for the job, despite a heavy pro C-130 lobby. Very often, Operation "Mule Train" gets confused with, or mixed in with, Operation "Ranch Hand", same type of aircraft, same base, totally different mission.
The important thing is that as the Air Force Chief of Staff he supported the best aircraft for the job; this is the action required of the person in this position. |

At least he's not from the FAA. The FAA mission statement / HR policy: We're not happy 'till you're not happy. The blues Mondays thing is dumb, but I have a feeling its only the tip of the iceberg. Interesting that he went to Harvard - a school openly anti-military. |

If you aren't a pilot, you won't become AFCoS, and only 2 or 3 non-flyers have become Vice AFCoS. That's the long and short of it.
Please note: the following is the list of AFCoS's, not the Vices.
I would complain more about how the "Bomber Generals" ran the AF, but now that I look back on the list of fighter generals who had run the AF since 1982, there's been some real stinkers in that list too. Welch, and McPeak anyone?
Hell, Dugan and Moseley were both fired for Chrissakes!
Fogleman and Ryan were both hamstrung by an anti-military Administration, and Jumper could have never forseen what would happen 5 days after he took the d@mn job.
So, now the AF has to "Use the Schwartz". Again, I'm glad he's an airlift guy like me, however, he is a dark patch airlift guy...and I'm already not liking this Non-Vol to AFSOC crapola that's been going on. |

I hear/read a lot of comments on the "Blues Monday" decree. And like most everyone else, I relish getting to put on my flightsuit each and every day. Do I want to wear the blue uniform instead of the flight suit? No. But I look back many years to the day I got to wear my Blues when I was commissioned. I was very honored to get to walk around that day with my uniform and gold bars on. It was part of my lifelong goal.
Now, everyone knows, and complains, that the USAF has become "IBM" or "Hewlett Packard", with their "corporate" mentality. Everyone is a "warrior", and flightsuits are worn by personnel that don't get near an airplane. But the issue isn't a "flightsuit" issue. It's a "USAF culture" issue. The Chief recognizes that our personnel are becoming a union,... that they feel that there is no rank amongst each other,... that they whine about the wearning Blue Uniforms, etc....
The first Monday this policy went into effect, I was sure pleased to see the Blue Uniform around the base. Gee, I guess I am in the USAF after all. And yes, I wore my Blues the 2nd Monday.
So I'll argue for the Chief when folks say he's "focused" on the Blue uniform issue. No, he's not. He's watched part of our USAF culture change/rot for decades, and figured "when I'm in charge, I'll do this". Well, he did it. And while the membership sits around and bitches about having to wear the uniform that they volunteered to wear, he's tackling big issues.
So, let's do what the boss says, and move on. Is this really that big of a deal? |

| Seriously? Are you guys so narrow-minded to think that one has to be a fighter pilot in order to be a good leader? No wonder the AF is in such dire straits... |
