Well since my unit lost our jets I get to wear my blues every monday at tech school, since I don't get to turn wrenches anymore.
You can take a maintainer from the flightline, but you can't take the flightline from the maintainer. |

It's funny. This Sierra apparently started when I was deployed. Now, this coming Monday when I'm back at work, I'll get to see this Blues Monday thing firsthand. I'm in a flying squadron, and we have an MXS downstairs from us, but if I'm going around the base, I'll no doubt see it.
I also don't understand what the delay in summer ABUs is. Why the Foxtrot did they release the winters first anyway? Who even wears winter weights? Back when I still wore BDUs, here are the following places I wore them: Lackland, Sheppard, Tyndall, Homestead, Fairchild (2 weeks in June), and Altus (summer and autumn). I could count on one hand the number of times I've worn Winter BDUs. They are presently hanging in my closet unused. I only bothered having my wings sewn on them, because I'm required to, but I doubt I'll ever wear them again, before 2011.
I'm just glad my DCUs were issued to me, instead of me purchasing them. Before I deployed, I was told "Get at least one set of DCUs. You WILL need them". When I went to the desert, again, I had my tapes, rank, and wings sewn on them. Then, my DCUs spent the remaining time of the deployment hanging in my locker. I never wore them, and just before I left the desert, AFCENT (another collection of geniuses, and rocket scientists) made ABU wear mandatory for all new incoming rotations. So, now, I have yet ANOTHER uniform hanging in my closet which was never, and now, will never be used.
Now, we currently have an unpopular service coat, foisted on us by an unpopular AFCoS, and we want to flush more money down the toilet replacing it, before we get the necessary summer weight uniforms which are needed by not only our deployed Airmen, but also our Airmen stationed in hot and/or humid locations. I've only worn my coat 7 times, IIRC. I have no prospects of wearing it again within the next year. The next AF Ball will likely be the next time I wear it, so, you tell me which is the bigger priority.

And here I had visions of the Blues Brothers on the flight line |

This is too easy .......
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses ...... hit it ...
Our Lady of Blessed Acceleration, don't fail me now!

ahhh, I like my retired uniform - the one my employer provides for me, replaces twice a year and launders for free.
I feel for you guys, I too have a full set of blues that were worn only once in 3 years. I purchased and wore them for my SNCO induction - then they hung in the closet from that point on (still there in the plastic cover from the dry cleaners). That set replaced the set I wore to the NCO academy 5 years prior. Had to buy new ones because of another change to the shade of color and new coat.
it is indeed a waste of money to keep redisigning them.
Anyone remember when we dropped stripes and name tapes form our bdu's to wear a patch? Another brilliant idea that was. |

Yeah, the training-style leather aircrew badges. They're bad enough on a flight suit, but they were hideous on the BDUs, and gladly that idea fizzled out like a bad fart.

Yeah, the test ABUs from a few years back. Fortunately, I had already gotten out (first enlistment) and was working as a DOD civvy at the time, when this was transpiring. Even then, we would look at the few who were testing it (mostly SFs) and all thought it looked like a Hawaii Shirt.
General Jumper must've been a big "Magnum, P.I." fan, I guess. |
