Does anybody have more information about this?
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8U17HM80&show_article=1
My understanding is that both pilots ejected, but my information is sketchy at best (all the news seems to be concentrated on the Iranian gunboats harassing U.S. Navy destroyers). |

| The IMPORTANT part is that all 3 folks got out....I'd say guys, but the CO of one of the units involved is a female....an 18 Echo and a Fox attempted to defy the laws of physics about different matter and mass occupying the same space, and bad shi'ite resulted. |

| although were always glad to hear everyone got out safely, i cant help making a note hear...especially after a recent retirement of a certain kitty...lol .. hearing the fact that 2 SUPERHORNETS tried to occupy the same airspace, is relatively comparible to standing on the corner in DETROIT MI, and watching a TOYOTA slam into a HUYNDAI...AS LONG AS EVERYONE WALKS AWAY....I think we can kinda laugh a little and say 2 down and a 160 to go.....lol..NAVALIZE THE F-22 NOW!... SELL our SUPERHORNETS to CANADA...this is embarrasing.lol..It used to mean something when the fleet would pull up to your coast and PUT 14's up in the air..usually made most countries see it our way..now.. these countries are more worried about falling debri from SUPERHORNETS than anything...WELL.. I guess as long as we get the job done, and bring our people back safely.....lol..FLY NAVY.. |

| Does anyone know the side numbers or the Buno's from either of the jets. I have a ton of Super Bug pictures from my recent desert vacation and was curious if I shot photos of them. |

It's kind of funny, but 1 mostly forgotten point was discovered in the ATF trials way back when. Out of the 2 contesting airframes, the YF-23 would be the easier to convert for Navy use.
Okay, maybe not forgotten, but nobody ever speaks of it. |

| I think they both would have needed EXTENSIVE modifications to work as a Navy bird. That said I believe the YF-23 had a lower landing speed (which would definitely help in making the grade as a Navy aircraft). |

As long as the kitty was G.E. powered and flown by a Felix (VF-31) or SATD.
Just a passing note which will be lost in the depths of history the Tomcat logo originally started with Norm Gandia (former No. 5 slot, Blue Angel) and the name Tom came from both the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Tom Moorer, and CNO, Tom Connolly. I suppose once a Chief, always a Chief . . . . incoming expected!!
Norm was the driving force behind all the artwork associated with kitty including the illustration of the F-15 getting "surprised"
Last time baby! into the sunset. |

The famous(now infamous) Naval ace Randy "Duke" Cunningham had once said that if he were to go to war again, he would want to be flying the F-15 Eagle.
Of course, that was before the F-22 Raptor was in production. |

| My nephew who drives "Superbugs" (aka "Rhino" in real Navy parlance) was in RTU with one of the pilots involved in the collision. |
