F-16 contre Rafale, le vrai-faux combat. Seems like the Rafale kicked the F-16's tailpipe Wink

http://videos.tf1.fr/video/news/0,,3931 ... mbat-.html

Quote:
The USAF recently invited some Rafale F2s to do some advanced dog fighting against some F-16s Blk 52 .

It was a one v one confrontation repeated multiple times . The drill did last 3 days.

Considering the newness of the Rafale's design, wouldn't it be newsworthy if the Rafale did not beat the F-16, any variant?

Old post but lets kick the sleeping dog...

Lets see....Go to an RTU and brag about beating up on the F-16....Really....? Would any of you go to an elementary school and say you out smarted the students there??? Some of you should not answer the question.....as it is rhetorical.

I don't speak French so I can't vouch for what the article says. I suspect it doesn't denigrate the F-16 (Could be wrong, though). But again I don't speak French and I thank all of the previous military members who gave me the right to say this in english.

I speak a smattering of Francais....I swear that guy said something about surrender twice....can a UPT 2nd Louie accept a French capitulation? After all, it is just an excercise, but you always want to be ready for things like that.

it said that the Rafale won 6 to 2 in the competition, and the french pilots can´t hide their pride...that the US pilots were impressed by the rafale...that the AdA can compare to the strongest USAF...

Were the ROE's 'somewhat' even? If so, I would be surprised that the F-16s won two of the engagements! Whereas the Rafale is an entirely new design, I would expect it would have done better.
I realized that the Rafale was compromised in its design as an air to air fighter to make it a better "omni role" fighter-bomber. But, as I said at the beginning of this posting.... what are the ROEs?

There are no Block 50/52's at Luke. Luke is a Training base...The F-16's that are there are block 25's and Block 42's both with the PW-220 engine. Not exactly the place to go and brag about winning at BFM. But good on the French and the Rafale. Seriously, did anyone think they'd run an article that showed the Rafale not doing well. It better have done well, they spent a lot of money on it.

What's the matter with you guys? The Rafale is an advanced desing, it's a good fighter, it is designed with European technology not by Chinese or Russians.. and it is coming from an Allied country!
In the next years it is more possible that Developed Countries will fight against F-16s than against Rafales, since the F-16 has been sold to various States that can sell it to other States...
Just remember where the friendlies are and where the possible enemies are... and if your friend can fight hard, better for both of you!

Yeah there will be concern if the 35+ year old F-16 design, which Luke's aren't exactly A2A optimized, were consistently winning against the newer Rafale!

Got me Henrik,
There are no American Block 50/52's at Luke. Oh, and the RSAF Block 52's aren't what USAF block 52's are inside, since they are FMS.

Marco9,
I get where you are coming from. I think the Rafale is a great design and I'm glad that it is flown by one of our allies. I think the Mirage 2000 is a great airplane, but I'll always be partial to the F-16, so that will naturally come out when I talk about it.

Hopefully, everyone on this forum remembers that the French have been our friends for over 200 years and we owe a lot to them, including help gaining our freedom (anyone remember from history the blockade of the British at Yorktown?)

Just because we've had disagreements doesn't make us enemies, we're just in lull since De Gaulle snubbed the Allies that helped the French in WWII and the walked out of NATO. We aren't as close as we could be. The French probably feel slighted by the US since they could not influence us in the Iraq War. Not to mention I'm never happy when I perceive the French are happy to sell technology and weapons to unsavory countries to combat American technology. Of course, I forget it might appear the same way to the French with how we proliferate weapons.
