AGR possibilites???

Hey guys, I'm currently a active duty fighter crew chief wanting something different. My ultimate goal would be an AGR predator sensor operator. I've heard its pretty hard to score an AGR slot right off the bat. I talked to the ANG recruiter this afternoon and was pretty impressed. I have about 2 years left until my DEROS so I have a bit to research and network. Any tips or advice.

Keep researching, and talk to the Nevada ANG they have a predator mission down at Indian Springs. Full time is probably a dream right out the gate since your not quallified but a traditional job (part time) is definately a possiblity.

I keep hearing its a dream but my good friend Palace Front right into one of those slots from a totally different career field. Don't know if she just got lucky or what.

I hear they just stood up a new UAV unit at Otis ANGB - Falmouth, MA. Supposed to be a lot of openings. I have no details beyond that.

You have to look pretty hard, I don't want to say it is impossible but most AGR spots are hired in house from the weekend and air tech pool of people. The only time I have not seen this is in smaller shops where the air tech pool is older and no one wants the AGR spot and the weekend folks have good jobs. Then the job is listed nationwide. Best approach is talk with shop chiefs and see how many AGR's they have and when they might leave. Pick a unit get in and ask for a temp AGR or temp Air Tech tour and look for full time openings as an Air Tech. Also be prepared to move around in a unit to advance or find that elusive AGR spot. Once there is an AGR opening get your ducks in order they can get very very competitive and sadly politics will be involved it is the government after all. And lastly after you land the AGR be prepared to have many bosses that have no idea how to handle AD personal not on a time clock and working one weekend a month for nothing. Each state will have an HRO website with job announcements both Air tech and AGR and who can apply. Active Duty folks have been beating the door down lately so start now with the networking. Sorry so long and not better structured.
