Hey there everyone!

My name is Jeff and I just registered today! Very Happy I'v always loved military aviation and flying in general. I came across this website by mistake at about 0200 hrs in a google search for info on the T-Birds crash. I'm glad I decided to stay and look around!

I've lived in San Diego all my life and have never missed a year of the Miramar airshow (my first one was in 1977, so you have some idea how old I am). My godfather flew Phantoms in Vietnam and Cessnas for the CHP and my dad started me reading good books at an early age - Flight of the Intruder, Fox Two, and Bat 21 in 4th grade. Not trying to brag, just trying to give an idea where I'm coming from. Since then, I've read all the books, watched all the good programs, and asked all the really nice pilots at the airshows everything I could think of to learn everything I can.

I always wanted to fly for the Navy, but bad eyesight and asthma wouldn't let me follow that dream. My closest connection to the Viper was in Boy Scouts when one of my friends dad was an instructor pilot in the N model at Miramar. The last time I saw the T-Birds was Air Space America '88, and they put on a great show! I've always liked the Viper and the concept it represents - a lightweight, inexpensive fighter with a serious ability to kick @$$!!! Very Happy

I'll be moving away from beautiful San Diego in a few months for the bright lights and hot summer nights in Fabulous Las Vegas! Hopefully I'll see a few Vipers and Eagles and Raptors!

Hey Jeff, welcome to F-16.net and... you'd discover in about... one second that your "mistake" was the best thing that happened to you today!

parrothead,

Nice to see you found this site, I think you will fall in love with Vegas (within reason) I know I did. I was stationed there twice and each time it got better, of course I was working with Vipers so I am a bit narrow minded in that area. I hope you enjoy your stay in Vegas, go out to Craig Road near the Nellis AFB. You will be able to see every aircraft you can think of coming and going at sometime or another, even the Thunderbirds, Blue Angels and maybe, just maybe the Snow Birds and possibly Red Arrows. They all come to visit once and awhile. Happy Bird watching and enjoy!

Tom Wharton PS...Make sure you go to the Thunderbird Hanger and view the Hall of Fame, lots of great photos and stories.....Smile

Thanks, Tom and welcome aboard! Very Happy It seems like all the pilots and crew I meet are great people - really nice and always willing to share any info they're allowed to. Cool One quick question - Is the T-Bird hanger open to the public all the time like some of the museums around here, or only during airshows...?

Thanx again, Tom! I'd love to go to Pensacola once I have some $ (I'm a starving computer student ).

Don't worry, I'm always safe. REALLY!!! Laughing My signature is a bit of a joke I got from my dad - he was on the California Highway Patrol for 31 years and picked up a lot of sayings like that. I'm not sure, but I think he got that one from my godfather, who just happened to have flown F-4s off the Midway and America during Vietnam.

Another one I'm almost certain you'd be familiar with is the six "P"s - Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance! Wink Have fun and I'll see ya around the site!
