Building a 1/32 Tamiya F-16 CJ I think the color scheme included in the set is wrong. It's a three color scheme, while I think a two color scheme has to be done. Correct if I'm wrong: FS 36118 and FS 36270

I know the radome isn't painted but coated. But what color can I use for a medium used aircraft? FS 36320 or darker?

Last question: the stores (pylons and tanks)? I assume FS 36375. Correct?

Thanks in advance

Hi Klaas,

In accordance with the Corrosion Control T.O.1F-16C-23, it listed 3 tone grey. FS36118, 36270, 36375.

Last answer- Fuel & Wing Weapon pylons: FS36375
- Centerline pylon: FS36375
- STA 2,3,7,8 AIM-9 Launcher Adaptor: FS36270
- AIM-9 Launcher: FS36270

Hope that helps!

Andrew.

The Tamiya instructions are wrong. All jets depicted on the instruction sheets have long since been re-painted in the two-tone grey camo, where 36375 has been dropped. Right up until the very last jet, new Vipers delivered from L-M were painted in the full 3-color camo. However, since about 1996, the lightest grey has been dropped at USAF paintshops. Basically, as soon as the jet gets its first re-paint, it will be in the 2-tone.

Hi Jake. Thanks for your reply. So I was right.
But what about pylons, launchers and tanks?

The vast majority have been repainted in 36270, but it isn't at all uncommon to still see them in 36375, especially the fuel tanks and their pylons. I've never seen a wingtip rail in 36375, though.

Hi Jake, in line with your post qouted above, this means that when painting the Tamiya kit, as per kit instructions, I would only need AS-27 Gunship Grey 2 and AS-28 Medium Grey? Question
I regularly use Tamiya enamels how can I get (by mixing) those two colors FS 36118 and FS 36270? Question

My first posting-had to get in on this!
Looking at many pics, the radomes shades can vary from Light ghost gray to almost Gunship gray. I have painted most of my 1/48 and 1/32 ships radomes with RAF Ocean Gray.
I have some cool shots from Scott showing a flame pattern on the radome by the CC's using a pencil eraser! So it must be that they get darker with age, etc.

The Medium Gray shown for the 1/32 Tamiya Kit just doesn't loook right, too much blue. My basic colors are Neutral, Gunship, and RAF Ocean for the radome. It makes me happy Smile

Can't wait to get my hands on the new Tamiya and Kinetic DJ kits!

Oops! Didn't mean that Tamiya had a DJ coming! That would be nice though, wouldn't it? Cheers
