What about all the noise and fire!?
You have to mention the noise and fire when describing a scramble! |

What, no victory roll or buzzing of the tower?
Gee, the movies make it look SO much better.
Just a little sunday morning silliness. |

Yea, Victor Alert had its moments. Depending where you were stationed and the rotation of the crew chiefs, it was fun at times, of course that also depended on the facilities you were housed in.
Time on and off duty wasn't bad either, most crew chiefs I knew volunteered for it, few fought it because at times, it could be "skate duty" until the "Clackston Alarm" went off and we all scrambled to our aircraft....then it took on a whole different meaning.
I remember my time or rotation tours assigned to "Victor"...special assigned parking at the Movie Theater, BX, Post Office etc, time was short outside the gates (sometimes).
Much of the real headache I remember was getting the identified (aircraft picked for that duty) aircraft "On Status". Tthe check list of events before even getting the aircraft "sign for"...many maintenance and documentation nightmares too - looking back, I am glad I got to be part of it many times and at different USAFE locations.
You folks that got to participate, know what I mean...sometimes, quite the headache for all involved |

Roger that...I'll tell you, back in the 70's..I sure wish we would have had Video or DVD's back then, the time would have been much more enjoyable
I got sick of reading or writing letters to family but taking a college course here and there did not hurt either, it all worked and made time pass. |

| I also did it with F-4's at Lakenheath from 72 t0 75, later at Bentwaters 77 to 79 and Happy Hahn 82 - 83 (then I took over as Senior Controller at the MOC) for SMS John Seago (remember him - weapons guy but a cool dude). |
