I noticed that there are no avatars on this site. Is it possible for the forum to have it? It would let everyone show a pic of themself or anything else instead of having to cram it into their sig.

Hi PilotLN23,

welcome to F-16.net!

We don't support Avatars on F-16.net simply because we feel they distract too much from the content (you end up with avatars in all sizes and colors, some with animation, etc). For the same reason we prefer not to use graphical signatures (I realize it's mentioned nowhere though).

Hope you understand,

stefaan

I like the no avatars. Less crap staring at you when you're trying to read.

It's also the nature of the forum. It's not a flightsimming site (sometimes there are F4.0 questions but that's all), and many people are actively involved in the real military, so it's pretty much useless, since nobody would really have such a picture or notice it.

And with the stuff you can read in here (if you're a civilian fan of the Viper), and the many times vigorous member dogfighting occuring, you'll notice it even less Twisted Evil

You could give everybody an avatar of the number of posts. By this i mean get pics of viper flight hour patches and give them to the users as they achive more and more posts. eg. 100 posts...give the user a pic of a 100 hrs viper patch as the avatar.

That would be a cool idea. Better then random avatars since it actually has something to do with F-16s

Parkeran,

that's a good suggestion. We're going to do an update of the forum software in the near future, and we'll try to implement the "viper posts" patches!

(Regarding the forum software update: we'll make sure the general look & feel and functionality remain the same. We're more or less forced to switch since our current software is no longer maintained (no new features, bug fixes take a long time, etc.), and this is less than ideal.

Anyway, I'll make sure to keep everyone posted. Thanks again for the suggestion!
