it was not the fact that the run guy was a crew chief, it was he had only two months experience. If it had been an engine guy with the same experience, I'm sure the results would have come out the same.
Well, before an engine guy can run installed engines he has to be on airframe for a certain mount of time but of course he is learning alot more bout his engine. Were as the crew was most likely on his frame for 4 or 5 years before he gets the opporunity (talking new cc here). So he has plenty of chances to learn something bout the motor. Before we go to class, we already know about pickled motors and what supposed to happen in the process. So in that case, it was the crew chief. I know the guy and trust me, it was all him. In my carrer (talking -16's not -15 akruse) all the problems I've seenon runs were mainly with cc because they did not know or did not understand so they freaked out. We already know how and why this happens before the class. Try getting a CC to run a low energy for you the former way, which at the time was the normal way of doing it, and watch him freak out when the nozzle slams to closed. After you already explained it to him and it is in the book. I find it funny cause all you're cc expeditors would run up like "Hey why that jet auto-tranfered to SEC?" Get outta here. |

| Whatever.......... It IS an experience thing. If the crew chief f-ed up, than he was either a slow learner or the engine guy teaching the class didn't explain it good enough. We (cc's and engine troops) both have all-stars and b-teamers. It's not fair to say that all cc's are not as competent to run motors as engine troops. That's all I'm trying to say. |

| Oh no, I'm not going to say all crewchief's are not as competent as engine troops. Just saying that in theose classes (engine run, I&E, etc.) the class should go a little more indepth to help the cc out. And we all know there are more CC's teaching the running an installed engine class than engine guys. |

To preclude Crew Chief damage!
Oh come-on TEG, You had your union going as well …
Back in the day with manual trim TF30 P-3’s, and in the House of Hush … you engine Groupies were either in the control room or running the jet.
The Crew Chief was under the jet making the fuel control adjustments while in Zone 3?
Loud, jet and panels swaying around ... someone says two clicks counterclockwise … what?
No not that way!!! ... what?
You don't know how good you have it with these modern day engines!!! |

Hardly a union; we prefer "pack." Ever notice engine troops always travel in groups?
Trust me; I've sat under a J75 putting clicks into the MFC....
BTW - Why is it everywhere you go engine mechanics all have the same bad rap? When you tell someone your job, they always seem to take a step back or start to lock things up...
I think we're drifting |
