| I been looking all over the net...this site and also the DOD photo site and am curious to know if anyone has seen the 18FS F-16CGs using LITENING or the newer SNIPER pod. I've seen an Eielson pilot wearing the new JMCS helmet but the pod was a LANTIRN on the jet. Anyone can give me insight ? |

JHMCS has nothing to do with targeting pods.
Cheers,

Hello Siesta,
Yes the 18th FS is still using the AN/AAQ-14 LANTIRN target pods on their CCIP´ed Block-40s!! Just like the 388th FW at Hill AFB, UT and the 20th FW at Shaw AFB, SC.
Snipers will soon find their way into the Active units and the 18th FS will very soon convert to the "Big Inlet" Block-30s now assigned to the 80th FS / 8th FW at Kunsan AB, Korea and changing the mission aggressors and thereby the 18th AGRS.
In turn the Osan AB, Korea based 36th FS / 51st FW will receive the Block-40s of the 18th FS and the current 36th FS Block-40s will transfer to the 80th FS at Kunsan!!
Confused?? I hope not
Greetings,
Henrik. |

Nope.. I pretty much knew that info... just curious about the SNIPER pod distribution. Looks that are being distributed by the handful to various squadrons ie A-10s, F-15Es as well that are about to or are deploying or in case of Korea at the frontline.
I forget how the Air Force loves to shuffle jets .. ie switch Elmendorf F-15Es with Mountain Homes and then two years later give them back to Mountain Home!
Henrik... where are you stationed at? |

Hello Siesta,
Thanks. Well, I am stationed in rain full Copenhagen, Denmark - pure civilian I must say, sorry!!
Snipers seem to be going from ANG F-16 units these days with the CO, MN and MT ANG units having reverted to Litening ATs.
NY and SC ANG units are still flying Snipers as well as the DC ANG.
It is either one or the other - no units fly a mix of TGPs anymore.
Now where the A-10C modified aircraft are receiving operational squadrons it seems that these units - along with Your mentioned F-15E units - are getting the majority of the Snipers not reserved for the deployed forces.
The MD ANG will incorporate A-10C aircraft in normal operations this fall.
Greetings,
Henrik. |

Well sorta right, some units still have a mix and will fly depending on mission and availability. I know that to be a fact at my base. |
