| Its fairly commonly accepted that YF-23 was superior to YF-22 in speed, but how was its aerodynamic maneuverability and climb rate? I read it was heavier so to have the same climb would have a required a vastly lower drag design. Without TVC it prolly could not do what F-22 does but was it better than say a Typhoon, or was it more like a really good Eagle or Hornet? |

| Just based on looks, the YF-22 looked more maneuverable. However, looks can be decieving, and according to one test pilot who flew both planes, the YF-23 was as maneuverable as the YF-22, even though the -23 did not have thrust vectoring. As for post stall maneuverability and controllability, I don't know. I think that has yet to be fully disclosed. |
