I forgot about that. There was that talk of floating an idea of doing launch and recovery of STOVL jets on our existing big carriers.

I would think if you had an Afghanistan-like scenario where you had too carriers with a normal CAG and bring in a third to act as a special ops/logistics support base ( a la Kittyhawk) that had extra STOVLs on it that were going to a beach bare base within a few days of arrival that is fine. I would leave to an air boss to say though, but I don't know if you would want ot mix and match STOL and CV JSF ops on the same deck?

If we had the money it wouldn't be bad to have two ski jump carriers that would go with a MEF to support the Marines. .... if we had the money.

I really don't see many advantages in operating F-35B's for CVN's. As they will already operate from LHA's and LHD's. Further, more can be bought in as needed. Even operating from converted Merchant Ships. On the other hand F-35C's provide the USN with deep interdiction and strike. So, if the USMC wants only a STOVL F-35B Force. Then give there Carrier Based Squadrons back to the Navy............. Wink

IMHO I don't see the Navy going for F-35Bs. First, I have to agree with Corsair, whats the sense of bringing in a jet that has shorter range and payload? Second, right or wrong, the Navy loves it's big deck fast carriers. They aren't going to do anything that encourages a move away from them.
